In an effort to not peer pressure players into breaking their own personal boundaries of safety CPX staff did not press for recruitment from themselves or their command staff, they decided to create the opportunity and they players would come if they wanted to, and they did. Some of the original Command staff on both sides had decided to not attend for personal reasons which gave way to Pirate commanders, also affiliated with the Modern Day Pirates, to step and go head to head in what would be a relentless battle of will, brains and brawn. The days leading up to any paintball event are full of promise and titillation but Dreaded Legends 5 had the air of finality. Players and staff were out doing what they loved after a seemingly endless hibernation, playing an event that was anticipated not to happen. For many people the last game they played before quarantine was a CPX event at Black Ops Paintball, Bones and Ashes, so it was fitting that their first game back was a CPX event at Black Ops Paintball. Friday June 19th, 2020 officially kicked off the fifth installment of CPX’s scallywag battle the Buccaneers versus the Marauders. Leading the Marauders was a CPX legend and veteran commander Richard “Mamba” L from Capital Offense battling against the Buccaneer’s first time CPX legends commander Matt “Vanilla Gorilla” Copeland from Phantom Regiment, and both of these men came ready to fight with stacked armies in tow. With no real press for attendance and recruitment it was inspiring to see the true spirit of the paintball player as 250 still showed ready to compete, nothing stood between them, except a capsule full of paint at 280 feet-per-second. 018 paintball.media magazine
