INSPIRATION FOR DUO... My inspiration for launching Shop Duo’s first Sip & Shop was to connect with my customers directly. Truthfully, with my current schedule as a publicist, it can be difficult to update Duo’s website frequently. Photo shoots and site maintenance can be time consuming. Since I’m a one-woman show at the moment, I decided to alter Duo’s business model a bit. Each year, I will be hosting a series of pop-up shops in several fashion forward cities to enhance sales and directly connect with Duo’s consumers. I also want to give other brands a platform to expose their goods. It’s an excellent way to promote our products. Overall, I was extremely happy with the event. We had an amazing turn out and I’m already preparing the next event set to be in Los Angeles. LIFE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS: Aside from Duo, I work as a Public Relations Consultant full-time. My main focus is Lifestyle and Entertainment PR but I have experience in Hospitality and Business, as well. Living in Los Angeles, I get the opportunity to work alongside many different personalities. I love consulting because I have complete control over who I work with. Although I am the liaison of communication between my clients and the media, each client I add to my roster is an extension of my personal brand. Therefore, our ideals have to coincide. I believe some people forget, when you work as a consultant, you yourself are your own business. So, I’m very particular with who I decide to work and associate with. I pride myself in being candid with my associates and potential clientele. learning experience and I was grateful for the opportunity. I frequently attend a lot of red carpet events with my clients. I try to have fun working, so I tend to take a lot of risks. My client and I made a last minute decision to attend one event in particular and “crashed” the red carpet. It was perfect because I got the opportunity to stand side by side with Oprah as she interviewed with a few publications. Being that close to someone so influential was life-changing. I listened to her coach these young female journalists. The woman exudes pure power. I want that! If I’ve learned anything about working in this industry is that, it’s about being at the right place at the right time. But, sometimes you have to strategically position yourself at these places in order to make relevant moves. That’s a page straight out of my PR Diary! PRIMARY BUSINESS FOCUS RIGHT NOW: My primary focus right now is expanding my businesses. By the end of the year, I intend on launching my own full service PR firm. I will continue to build brand awareness for Shop Duo. Eventually, I would like to obtain a space capable of housing Duo’s inventory and being an office for my “Being so close to someone that influential was life-changing” PR related projects. The timing and space just CREDIBLE PROJECTS YOU’VE WORKED ON IN PR: have to be perfect! This year, I worked on IHOP’s National Pancake Day 2014 campaign, while consulting at a hospitality public relations firm. This was a big accomplishment for me because it was the first time I worked on a National campaign with such a small team. It was a great CHECK OUT: www.doshopduo.com IG@shopduo PCL 43
