I ' ve seen generations come and I ' ve seen generations go and I ' m here to tell you out of love and graciousness that your particular generation is dying in a sea of purposelessness . Apathy , hurt , and fear — we don ' t have purpose and we don ' t have meaning and we don ' t know why we are really here . A USA Today article reads ,
" Alcohol still is the No . 1 problem facing the nations ' high schools , and it ' s getting worse instead of better . Apathetic students pose the second-most-serious problem . Nothing else — drugs , racism , discipline , poor teachers — comes close . Apathetic students who don ' t want to be in school are an increasing problem in U . S . high schools , the students agree . And some of them blame the parents . A pastor friend of mine just came back from the heart of Africa . He told me that part of the problem with some of the people in Africa is that they have no word for the phrase ' day after tomorrow .' It ' s not in their vocabulary . The concept ' day after tomorrow ' isn ' t there . You may think that to talk like that sounds racist . No . It sounds more like many of the American students who are simply living for today . But God says " No , no , no ." He says that what ' s going to happen in the future gives our lives meaning in the present .
