Little Company of Mary Torrance Medical Center Legacy Suites is a renovation that reimagines the patient care environment through a hospitality-inspired lighting approach. Designed to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the lighting enhances patient rooms, nurse stations, corridors, dining areas, family lounges, and support spaces while balancing visual comfort, functionality, and the clinical needs of the healthcare setting.
Patient rooms are illuminated with multiple layers of light that adapt to a variety of activities throughout the day. A softly backlit headwall provides a calming architectural focal point, complemented by dedicated examination lighting, visitor lighting, closet lighting, and ambient illumination that can be tailored to both caregivers and patients. The result is a comfortable, residential environment that promotes rest and well-being.
In the corridors, narrow profile recessed linear luminaires trace the curved ceiling geometry, highlighting the wall finishes while providing gentle, low-glare illumination for patients. At each patient room entrance, cove and toekick lighting work alongside decorative wall sconces to define the portal and create a welcoming transition. At the nurse station, a continuous curved linear luminaire wraps the reception counter, accent lighting highlights featured artwork, and low-glare recessed downlights provide balanced ambient illumination, reinforcing the project’ s overall goal of delivering a refined, hospitality-inspired healthcare environment.
