FDA Pacific Northwest Regional Labs - Walk-In Freezers and Coolers & Laboratory Renovations , Bothell , WA

The Food and Drug Administration ( FDA ) requires the replacement of walk-in freezer and cooler systems at the Pacific Northwest Regional Labs . Reliable temperature maintenance for samples is an essential requirement for the regulatory lab . The walk-in coolers in this facility are approximately 30 years old , with minimal replacement of parts since the original installation . The existing systems are no longer reliable and have difficulty keeping up with increasingly stringent cooling requirements . This project will provide updated heating , cooling , ventilation systems , and upgraded plumbing and refrigeration piping to support new cooling equipment . We developed design documents for the new laboratory-grade freezer and cooler systems for three locations within the facility in alignment with ISO 17025 Testing and Calibration standards and the lab ’ s operational protocols .
The project owner modified the original contract to include additional engineering services to remodel five laboratories located on the first floor . Several of the rooms no longer serve the FDA mission and all the labs require finished repairs . Our mechanical design for this effort focuses on meeting cooling needs , especially in rooms where significant heat-generating laboratory equipment will be added as part of the remodel . The design includes specialized lab gases to serve sensitive laboratory equipment .
