Assistant Conductor Participates in City-wide Marketing Campaign

Visit Baltimore ’ s “ Unapologetic Pride ” campaign tells the story of a city on the rise , resembling the endeavor to evoke fresh interpretations and perspectives . The campaign features local artists , business owners , and leaders , making Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush perfect for the job !

Celebrating Our State Through Music

This summer , the BSO sets off on the first leg of our Music for Maryland Tour ! Showcasing the Orchestra as one owned by the entire State of Maryland , the tour will take us to every Maryland jurisdiction over the next three summers .

Through each curated performance , the BSO and Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush aim to celebrate each community ’ s hometown pride , performing a piece that is inspired by that county ’ s history . Themes span from locomotive-inspired music — with John W . Garrett ( of Garrett County ) having served as the president of the famous Baltimore and Ohio Railroad — to the University of Maryland Terps ’ Victory Song of Prince George ’ s County . Additional musical selections bring together the entire state , opening with the National Anthem in a nod to its Maryland origin and including “ Simple Gifts ” from Copland ’ s Appalachian Spring in honor of the Trail ’ s 40 miles that run through Western Maryland .

“ I have always wondered what it would be like to have my picture on a billboard , and now here we are !” expresses Jonathan , a Connecticut native , on his excitement of being involved . “ This makes me feel as if Baltimore has really accepted me , and I can now really call our city home !”

Campaign ambassadors are featured with some of Baltimore ’ s most recognizable landmarks and iconic staples . Jonathan , collaged here with the Inner Harbor and famous steamed blue crabs from Faidley ’ s Seafood , can be spotted on interactive digital kiosks throughout Baltimore City .

We are pleased that the rest of Baltimore is sharing our appreciation for all of Jonathan ’ s hard work . From leading our Symphony in the City series to serving as Artistic Director of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras , he makes the BSO and our city proud !
