BALTIMORE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

NEWS OF NOTE
THANK YOU TO GOVERNOR HOGAN AND THE MARYLAND GENERAL ASSEMBLY !
President of the Maryland Senate Bill Ferguson .
Just in time for the 40th anniversary of the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall ( September 2022 ), we ’ re proud to be making improvements to our Baltimore home that will enhance the patron experience , reap new energy efficiency gains , and more ! With generous support from the Governor ’ s Office and Maryland General Assembly , the BSO has been granted a 2022 Maryland Consolidated Capital Bond Loan , providing capital funding to advance critical projects including a replacement of the escalators among other front- and back-of house upgrades .
Additional support from the Maryland General Assembly solidified during Session 2022 fuels the next step in our institutional turnaround — a $ 1.3 million operating grant from the State of Maryland . The second year in a five-year bridge of support , this financial aid remains an important part of the BSO ’ s transformational plans . Originally intended as seeding strategic investments today to drive audience and revenue growth tomorrow , bridge funding from the State has become even more important as we collectively emerge from the pandemic .
To thank the leadership and members of the Maryland General Assembly for their continuous championing of the arts , the Orchestra took a special trip to Annapolis during Session 2022 ! In March , members of the string section performed a “ Conduct Me ” program
in the lobby of the Miller Senate Office . With a few tips from Assistant Conductor Jonathan Rush , several senators and staffers made their respective debuts with the BSO by leading the Orchestra in Mozart ’ s Eine kleine Nachtmusik — and President of the Senate Bill Ferguson kept the room laughing and BSO musicians on the edge of their seats with his unpredictable tempo changes !
In honor of 30-years of service and her championship of the arts , Delegate Maggie McIntosh was presented with her own baton by Senior VP of Advancement Allison Burr-Livingstone and Percussionist Brian Prechtl .
