NEWS FROM ORCHKIDS
The Opening of Two New Sites
T
he BSO family continues to grow! This fall, OrchKids opened two new sites:
Mount Royal Elementary & Middle School and The Belair-Edison School.
The addition of these two sites will increase OrchKids’ reach from eight to ten
schools, as well as growing from 1,600 to 2,000 students.
OrchKids teaching artist Russell Kirk recently became the full-time music
instructor at Mount Royal, a public school that serves Pre-K through eighth grade students in
the Bolton Hill neighborhood. The program will support Kirk with the implementation of his
vision to provide a robust instrumental program to the Mount Royal community. OrchKids
will provide teaching artist support for instrumental instruction, workshops, guest artist per-
formances and field trip opportunities.
At The Belair-Edison School, OrchKids will provide in-school musicianship instruction
for Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade. Each student will receive two 45-minute musicianship
classes per week, serving approximately 275 students in the Belair-Edison charter school.
With the first two OrchKids alumni settling into their new life in college, we look forward
to seeing what the next generation of OrchKids students will continue to accomplish!
