to follow her passion and received her Bachelor of Music degree in 2007 from the Seoul National University in Korea . Later that same year , she moved to the United States to attend the Manhattan School of Music , where she earned her Master of Music degree and Professional Studies Certificate in Orchestral Performance Program . During her studies for her master ’ s degree , Lee studied closely with Glenn Dicterow , former concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra . Still today , she maintains an active performing career in New York as a substitute player for the New York Philharmonic . Lee has also performed with the Chicago , Pittsburgh and New Jersey symphony orchestras .
Prior to joining the BSO , Lee was a first-year fellow with the New World Symphony , where she often served as concertmaster working under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas .
Lee has participated in numerous music festivals including Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland , Schleswig- Holstein Music Festival in Germany , Pacific Music Festival in Japan , Artosphere Festival Orchestra , Bravo Vail Music Festival and Ravinia Music Festival . She has also participated in Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival ’ s Russian and North American tour .
Lee made her BSO solo debut performing Vivaldi ’ s Concerto for Four Violins during the 2014 – 15 season .
Angela Lee last appeared with the BSO as a soloist in November 2015 , performing Vivaldi ’ s Concerto for Four Violins , Marin Alsop , conductor .
Qing Li
Astonishing in her musical versatility , violinist Qing Li brings great warmth , poise and insight to her music making . Li is currently the BSO ’ s Principal Second Violin , appointed by Yuri Temirkanov in 2000 upon winning the audition , and is frequently featured as a soloist . Other solo engagements have included performing the Butterfly Lovers Concerto at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia , the Haydn Violin Concerto with the Richmond Symphony and the Bach Double Concerto with Hilary Hahn . Li is a Piatigorsky Foundation Artist , a much sought-after recitalist , chamber musician and guest concertmaster , such as a guest concertmaster at the Iceland Symphony in Reykjavik . Throughout North and South America , Europe and Asia , broadcast appearances have included a biography on Voice Of America ; interviews on Baltimore ’ s WBJC and WYPR radio stations ; and on TV stations in the U . S ., Germany and China . She is also a member of PBS ’ three-time Emmy Award-winning production , “ The All Star Orchestra .”
Critics have praised Li ’ s solo performances ; “ the highest level musically ,” ( The Baltimore Sun ), “ unsurpassed technical brilliance ” ( Hohenlohe ) and “ as the soloist , Qing was flawless … particularly in a stunning cadenza near the end of the first movement in the Haydn violin concerto . Her style was impeccable …” ( Richmond Times ).
Li is currently a faculty member of the Peabody Conservatory of Music and serves as faculty for festivals and programs around the world . She was the Associate Concertmaster at the Eastern Music Festival in 2016 , as well as a faculty member for EMF , the Beijing International Music Festival and the Master Players Festival in Delaware . She has also taught at the University of Delaware , the Festival Internacional de Inverno Compos do Jordão Winter Festival in Brazil , the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing , China Conservatory and music schools and conservatories in Shanghai and Hangzhou . Li is on the Faculty Artist team embarking on a new international project called , NYO-China Carnegie Hall in 2017 . She also performed in the NYO-China Chamber Music Festival in Beijing in 2018 .
Born in Beijing , Li began violin studies at age four with her father Zhen-Kun Li . At age 12 , Li was accepted to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing . There , she was discovered at a master class by Berl Senofsky , the first American to win the prestigious Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competition . Based on a prize-winning Sibelius Violin Concerto performance at the first Beijing International Violin Competition , Senofsky brought her to the renowned Peabody Conservatory of Music . She was granted a full scholarship and won the Marbury violin competition . Li has also studied with Herbert Greenberg . After graduating from Peabody , she studied with the legendary Joseph Gingold and won fellowships at major music festivals including Aspen , Tanglewood , Meadowmount and Alexander Schneider ’ s New York String Seminar . Li had won her first position in the BSO , playing on a $ 100 Chinese violin , which was a gift from her father . She currently performs on her Neapolitan instrument made by Nicolo Gagliano in 1736 .
Qing Li last appeared with the BSO as a soloist in February 2018 , performing Chen Gang and He Zhanhao ’ s Butterfly Lovers ’ Concerto , Nicholas Hersh , conductor .
Audrey Wright
Newly appointed Associate Concertmaster Audrey Wright first joined the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra as Fourth Chair Second Violin in September , 2016 . A versatile performer in solo , chamber and orchestral realms , Wright has previously held positions with the Excelsa Quartet ( 2014 – 2016 ) and New World Symphony ( 2013 – 2014 ). Her repertoire spans the early 17 th century to modern day , and her performing experience includes the full spectrum of these musical styles , from Baroque performance practice to the premiering of new and personally commissioned works . While a member of the Excelsa Quartet , she traveled throughout North America and Europe giving concerts and competing in international competitions . The quartet worked closely with members of the Guarneri ,
