I don’ t always wear a tuxedo, but when I do... having graduated from The Juilliard School. After completing his studies with Ivan Galamian and Christine Dethier, he was awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship to continue his studies in London at the Royal College of Music.
After enjoying critically acclaimed international tours as both concertmaster and soloist with numerous ensembles, Carney was invited by Vladimir Ashkenazy to become concertmaster of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 1991. He was also appointed concertmaster of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in 1994 and the Basque National Orchestra in 1996. Recent solo performances have included concertos by Bruch, Korngold, Khatchaturian, Sibelius, Nielsen, the Brahms Double Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending, which was featured as a live BBC broadcast from London’ s Barbican Hall. His recordings include concertos by Mozart, Vivaldi and Nielsen; sonatas by Brahms, Beethoven and Franck; and a disc of virtuoso works of by Sarasate and Kreisler with his mother Gloria Carney as pianist. Alfred Walker
In the 2017 – 2018 season, bass-baritone Alfred Walker joins San Francisco Opera as Orest in Elektra and the Metropolitan Opera as Titurel in Parisfal and as the Speaker in The Magic Flute. He also appears with Seattle Opera for Amonasro in Aida and Porgy in Porgy and Bess, and with Portland Opera for Méphistophélès in Faust. Concert performances include Verdi’ s Requiem( Sun Valley Summer Symphony) and Beethoven’ s Symphony No. 9( Orchestra Now). Last season included performances as Wotan in Das Rheingold( North Carolina Opera), Méphistophélès in Berlioz’ s La damnation du Faust( Teatro Municipal de Santiago), Josh Gibson in the World Premiere of Sonenberg’ s The Player King( Pittsburgh Opera), Porgy in Porgy and Bess( Sydney Symphony) and in Beethoven’ s Symphony No. 9( Phoenix Symphony).
Walker’ s other recent operatic engagements include appearances in Der fliegende Holländer( Geneva Wagner Festival, Théâtre de Caen, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg) and roles as Amfortas in
