musicals worthy of

tony nominations

1. "If/Then," starring Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp. This new musical marks Menzel's return to Broadway in contemporary fashion, revolving around the infinite possibilities life presents. "If/Then" presents a clean, fresh production, sans the typical Broadway bells and whistles.

With the Tony Award nominations fast approaching, anticipations are high for the biggest night on Broadway. Plenty of revival and new musicals premiered in the past year, but which ones have made a lasting impression? Here are the top five productions that we think should be nominated:

2. "Aladdin," as in the animated Disney movie. This production combines the familiar film with the traditional folk tales of One Thousand and One Nights, bringing a colorful musical comedy to Broadway.

3. "Beautiful," a musical based on Carole King's success story, the story is far from a boastful account of the singer's life. King's classic songs are sung throughout, giving a hearty look into the creation of a song.

4. "Cabaret," the second revival, with Alan Cumming reviving his role as the Emcee and Michelle Williams as Sally Bowles, nothing can go wrong in this production.

5. "Les Miserables," the longest running musical in the world. When a production runs for 25 years and still captivates audiences, it deserves every award.
