Punk with a punch ; how new and upcoming punk band Murder Capital are making punk personal - Joey Morris reports

It ’ s never been a better time to jump back to punk music as The Murder Capital ’ s burst onto the scene is bigger than ever ! Since they first began back in Dublin , the post punk band have enjoyed seven years of success , with future tours planned and a new album scheduled for their evergrowing European audience .

The band agreed that they treasured the accomplishments and experiences of their tours above all else , pointing out that monthly listeners on sites like Spotify or Apple Music aren ' t always a metric of success , because many top artists on streaming services don ' t even tour .
I asked them what was appealing to them about going to the music scene as a band as opposed to being solo artists .
Diarmuid Brennan , Drummer from The Murder Capital , said : “ I guess you have to keep in mind that what those five people are doing in the room , that group of individuals , you can ’ t really tell where the music is going or where it will end up . Or more importantly how it will get there . What discussions you ’ ll have or what roadblocks you ’ ll hit . I think that adds to the sweetness when you get to the endpoint .”
Post-Punk music is the revival of an old classic with a new twist , and The Murder Capital are just one of many punk bands over the last decade that have reminded listeners of what made punk-rock so iconic in the 1970 ’ s . Despite the perseverance of punk rocks devoted audience , the emergence of fresh genres such as pop and rap has prevented punk music from shining once again .
I was curious to the mindset behind some of their most recent songs , such as Only Good Things , and why the genre of post-punk was important to them .
Gabriel Paschal Blake , Bassist for The Murder Capital , said : “ It ’ s a lot about expression , right ? … Especially when we were at more isolated parts ... of this record . There was a lot of thinking about how we were feeling inside of ourselves and then trying to replicate it through our sonic language ."
The Murder Capital is the breath of fresh air sorely needed in the music industry , unafraid to be unique and true to themselves .
