ITINERARY
DAY 1 • Depart U. S. • Panama City, Panama Depart from the U. S. today and fly to Panama City. Upon arrival, join fellow travelers who arrived early in Panama’ s capital, as well as those who took our optional pre-trip extension, Colombia: Medellín & Colonial Cartagena.

DAY 2 • Panama City Discover cultural touchstones of Panama Viejo( Old Panama) as we stroll through the ruins here— majestic stone structures set among emerald fields and an abundance of towering native trees. Then, head to the Miraflores visitor center, where we’ ll embark on a walking tour of the locks that form the Panama Canal.

DAY 3 • Cruise Panama Canal • Panama Canal Museum
Head to the marina for what is sure to be one of the highlights of your adventure: a morning cruise along a section of the Panama Canal, with lunch onboard. After our cruise concludes, we’ ll learn more about Panama’ s legendary waterway at the Panama Canal Museum.

DAY 4 • Clayton • Emberá village visit We’ ll make our way to the Emberá Drua village by dugout canoe, a mode of local transportation. As one of Panama’ s seven indigenous tribes, this tight-knit community of only around 100 people embraces their traditional way, which we’ ll learn about during our visit. After savoring lunch with the tribe, we’ ll board our dugout canoe once again to make our way to back to our hotel.

DAY 5 • Fly to San José, Costa Rica Make your final discoveries in Panama independently this morning before we fly to San José, Costa Rica.

DAY 6 • San José Our day begins with a tour of downtown San José. As we stroll, we’ ll discuss the civil war that rocked the country in the spring of 1948. From there, we’ ll make our way to the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum. Following lunch, we’ ll visit the National Theater, considered one of the country’ s most impressive architectural accomplishments.

DAY 7 • San José • Fly to Tortuguero We’ ll fly to the Caribbean coast this morning. Upon arrival, we’ ll board a boat and cruise to Tortuguero,
which is home to 111 species of reptiles, 60 species of mammals, 309 species of birds, and 57 species of amphibians— including the endangered green sea turtle.

DAY 8 • Tortuguero National Park • Explore canals by boat • Nature walk
Both natural and man-made canals are the primary means of transportation in Tortuguero. We’ ll embark

On Day 3, embark on a cruise along the historic Panama Canal. One of the world’ s most famous man-made marvels, the canal opened in 1914 and today is traversed by more than 14,000 ships annually.
