DAY 10 • Purmamarca • Hill of the Seven Colors Set out on a walking tour of Purmamarca, a small desert town filled with colonial architecture, a lively main square, and an historic church. Then we’ ll take a short hike around the fantastical Hill of the Seven Colors.

DAY 11 • Overland to San Pedro de Atacama, Chile Today we will begin our journey into Chile, stopping for a community lunch with residents of the remote Argentinian village of Cerro Negro. Then we cross the

Andes— and the border— as we travel into Chile by motorcoach continuing on to San Pedro de Atacama late this afternoon. Upon arrival, we’ ll check into our hotel.
Please note: Today’ s transfer takes place at an altitude of up to 15,800 feet. We recommend staying hydrated and eating light while at high altitude.

DAY 12 • San Pedro • Salar de Atacama salt flats We take a walking tour of San Pedro, where we’ ll begin to learn about local Chilean history and culture. During our explorations, we’ ll visit the Church of San Pedro de Atacama, perhaps the town’ s most famous landmark. Later, we’ ll visit the Salar de Atacama salt flats and Laguna Chaxa, a flamingo breeding site.

DAY 13 • Optional Tatio Geysers tour • Valley of Death
Enjoy a free morning on your own. Or, rise early for an optional excursion to El Tatio geysers. This afternoon, visit the Valley of Death, known for its vast sand hills.

Then, fly to Santiago and check in to your hotel, where dinner is included.

DAY 15 • Santiago • Conversation about Pinochet dictatorship
This morning, we’ ll meet with a local to hear firsthand testimony about life in Chile under the Pinochet dictatorship. Then, explore Chile’ s capital on an included tour, featuring La Moneda Palace— the seat of Chile’ s government— and other city highlights. Join your fellow travelers for an included Farewell Dinner this evening.

DAY 16 • Local winery • Return to U. S. Visit a local winery this morning to learn about the varieties that are produced in this region of Chile, followed by a tasting. Later today, transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back home, or begin your Easter Island’ s Sacred Sites & Santiago post-trip extension.

On Day 11, immerse yourself in the dramatic scenery of the Andes when you traverse a mountain pass over the border from Argentina into Chile.
DAY 14 • Yerbas Buenas petroglyphs • Fly to Santiago
This morning, we visit the petroglyphs of Yerbas Buenas, a collection of drawings etched into the rocky landscape by the region’ s pre-colonial residents.
