DAY 1 • Depart U. S. Depart today on your overnight flight to Angra do Heroismo, Portugal.
DAY 2 • Angra do Heroismo, Portugal( Terceira Island)
Arrive in the Azores and meet your Trip Experience Leader and fellow travelers, including those who took the optional Portugal: Braga & Aveiro pre-trip extension.

DAY 3 • Angra do Heroismo Discover Angra do Heroismo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of three capitals of the Azores archipelago, on a guided tour today. Tonight, enjoy an included Welcome Dinner.

DAY 4 • Lajes Field • Praia de Vitória Discover Lajes Field this morning, an island airbase that has been leased to the U. S. military since World War II. With a local guide, you’ ll tour the field, and learn how the close presence of a foreign military has affected the Azores’ cultural fabric. Then discover Praia de Vitória, the island’ s second-largest city, before enjoying a scenic drive back to the hotel.

DAY 5 • Monte Brasil • Biscoitos • Algar do Carvão
• Home-Hosted Dinner
Drive to Monte Brasil for panoramic island views, then visit Biscoitos, a rural region of the Azores’ s northern coast known for its volcanic swimming pools and Verdelho white wine. After an included lunch, explore Algar do Carvão, an ancient lava vent known for its unique stalactites. This evening, get an intimate view of local Azorean culture during a Home-Hosted Dinner with a local family.

DAY 6 • Fly to São Miguel • Ponta Delgada Fly to Ponta Delgada on São Miguel, the largest and most populous of the Azores Islands. Explore the city on a guided tour late this afternoon followed by an included dinner.

DAY 7 • Furnas Lake • Thermal water bath • Cozido das Furnas demonstration • Visit Gorreana Tea Plantation
Today, discover Lagoa das Furnas, a crater lake and series of volcanic springs. Here, you’ ll witness cozido das Furnas, a traditional method of cooking using the steam of the Earth. Later, visit Gorreana Tea Plantation, the only tea plantation in Europe.

DAY 8 • Family farm visit with dinner Enjoy a free morning in Ponta Delgada. This afternoon, visit a small, family-owned farm. While here, we’ ll learn the inner-workings of the farm and enjoy a light picnic dinner together.
