SOMETHING WE
ALL NEED, but few answer the call to serve. It’ s not one of the exciting roles that entice many prospects to join the Auxiliary, like going on patrol, but my feeling is it’ s the glue that holds many the parts together. We often become the“ go to” for information on How, Who, Where do I find or what form do I use.
The Human Resources( HR) Department for District 1 Southern Region( D1SR) has a webpage within the D1SR website designed primarily to assist Flotilla Commanders and Human Resources Staff Officers with the various procedures and documents associated with their position, with emphasis on D1SR specific information. The type of information provided includes who to contact; enrollment procedures; changes in member’ s status; recruiting; resources for officers, current and new members; and much more. The District HR team is prepared to assist each level of the First Southern Region Auxiliary.
Recruiting and Retention, while always important, have become even more so due to the heavy decline in membership over the last few years. A good deal of this attrition was COVID related and the lack of activities & operations available during this period.
Approximately 50 percent of our new members in recent years have come from inquiries on the National“ Join Us” website. The remainder are from the old‘ tried and true” methods of interactions with the boating public at boat shows, performing vessel examinations and teaching boating safety.
There is a Recruiting Service Award( RSA) which includes a Uniform ribbon and certificate for members who recruit 7 new members in a single calendar year. There is also a National“ NACO Membership Growth Award” for member’ s recruiting 5 new members in a single calendar year.
New members are required to completed CORE training within their first 12 months. As an incentive to complete this in a timely fashion, the DSO-HR initiated an HR Challenge Coin award. This coin will be given to new member’ s who complete their CORE training( both AUXCT and BQCII) in 30 days or less. This is a personal award given directly to the member by the DSO- HR.
Could you use a little extra spending cash? The Coast Guard has started a new incentive program named“ Scout Talent and Refer”( STAR). this program has been made open to the Auxiliary. CG Auxiliarists will receive the Auxiliary Commandant’ s Letter of Commendation( ACLOC) and the $ 1,000 cash incentive for referring an idivitual to first-time Active Duty or Reserve enlisted service. Further details may be found in ALAUX 047 / 22( at right). This replaces the older“ Everyone Is A Recruiter” program.
