From a Non-Rate to a Petty Officer, 3rd Class
Joe decided to attend ‘A’ school to train for Damage Controlman. His orders were cut to attend the USCG training center in Yorktown for an 8 week intensive training. Damage Controlmen are responsible for the ships watertight integrity, emergency equipment associated with firefighting, and shipboard flooding; welding and repairs; chemical biological and nuclear detection and decontamination.
Graduation day came on 18 July 2019. As is tradition upon his graduation, his aunt Barbara Ingram and his father, Joseph T. Twarkins pinned his new rank on his collar.
Joe served onboard the CGC Campbell which is a medium endurance cutter based at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. The Campbell regularly patrols the Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Maine to the Caribbean Sea.
