Upon graduation from High School, Joe attended community college for a time and trade school but was still searching for his own illusive path to self-fulfillment. After soul searching, he reached out to his Aunt Barb to ask if she would go with him to the local Coast Guard recruitment office.
He joined the Coast Guard in 2017. As he headed off to boot camp, he confided to his Aunt that two of the most important factors in making his decision was his time with her and the kindness he had received from the members of Flotilla 77 Fairfield CT. Joe credits Barbara for his decision to join the Coast Guard.
