New York City – Auxiliarists from throughout the First Southern District rallied together to make Fleet Week a success on the USCGC Campbell (WMEC-909), USCGC Katherine Walker (WLM-552), and at a Public Affairs tent next to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. From May 22 to 26, over 50 Auxiliarists helped guide over 10,000 visitors touring the CGC Campbell and CGC Katherine Walker and instructed 750 visitors at the Public Affairs Tent about boating safety and the USCG Auxiliary.

Active Duty Crew from the Campbell utilized Auxiliarists as tour and safety guides while visitors which included young children and the elderly walked through the Cutter’s numerous doorways and stairs. Keeping visitors from falling down hatches and stairs as well as warning about low ceilings were common tasks for the tour guide teams.

Fleet Week offers the rare chance for the public to interact and learn about the USCG and the Auxiliary. For many visitors, it was a smiling Auxiliarist that first welcomed them after getting on-board a cutter.

Auxiliarists were able to learn more about how active duty Coast Guard members lived on a cutter while giving the crew the chance to take breaks or address other important tasks.
