Washington, D.C.. -- The U.S. Postal Service will release a "Forever" stamp in honor of the U.S. Coast Guard on Aug. 4, the 225th anniversary of the founding of the Service. This year is also the 100th anniversary of the Coast Guard's merger with the Revenue Cutter Service and Lifesaving Service. The Post Office receives up to 30,000 requests a year for a stamp and in recent years, an increasing number of requests have involved the Coast Guard. The city in which the stamp will be released has not yet been named. The stamp depicts a MH-65D helicopter flying over the Coast Guard Cutter Eagle. The back of the stamp will display the Coast Guard’s motto “Semper Paratus — Always Ready.” The Oregon-based aviation artist William Phillips designed the stamp. Stamp reprinted with permission from the U.S. Postal Service.
