Deepak’s flight from a small village in
Kodekela in Pathalgaon to IIT Delhi
speaks volumes of development
and progress in the State of
Chhattisgarh. Deepak was born
in a modest farmer’s family where
education was not a priority. His
parents along with two elder sisters
were unlettered. But despite no
atmosphere for education Deepak
was keen in studies. He used to walk
4 km to a small school every day. He
had no clue as to what he was going
to do when he grows. But he was
self-motivated and almost always
topped his class. His studies nearly
got a road-block when he came to
class eight. There were no further
classes in his school. He managed
to force his father to send him to
higher secondary school in Tehsil
Kun Kuri. Some teachers predicted
that he would become an engineer.
Deepak had no clue. But on the
insistence and help of his teachers
he managed to get admission in a
state institution where free coaching
was provided for admission to
engineering colleges.
Deepak
took full advantage and managed
to get 68th rank in ST category in
JEE examination. And finally he
reached IIT Delhi for studying Textile
engineering.
In his small native village an
aeroplane was a mere flight of
fancy. But he was actually aboard
an aircraft for the first time when he
cleared JEE and landed in Delhi.
He is now on IIT and dreams to
such youth is Nikhil Kanoje in
village Latuva.
Nikhil studied up to class 12
and also completed diploma
in computer applications. But
following financial constraints, he
was later forced to drop out. To
support the famil Nikhil began as
a labourer on daily wages. But
in the year 2015 Nikhil enrolled
in Gramin Lok Seva Kandra and
got an ID also. Through this he
began providing digital services in
Insurance, GIC, Aadhar Seeding,
Banking and other e-services. This
enabled him to a monthly income
of Rs 13,500.
Nikhil has also trained eight
women’s groups and 55 youth in
computers. It has helped literacy
programme in his village.
