LAURENCE MITCHELL / Boy at street market, Chittagong I found Bangladesh to be green and fertile as well as exceedingly friendly to foreigners like me. Having said that, Chittagong was a bit different: poorer and polluted, more raw and in-your-face than other parts of the country. I met this young man at an indoor fruit and vegetable market in the city. I was impressed by the boy’s poise and dignity, and the clear pride he showed being in charge of his pitch. I was also intrigued by the enormous exotic fruit that he had on sale at his stall, some of which almost dwarfed him. Very much master of his domain, I liked the way he positioned himself among his wares as if the display of fruit were some sort of throne. www.laurencemitchell.com summer 2017 | Outdoor focus 5
