Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital attained Magnet ® recognition for the third consecutive time in 2017. This third-time designation granted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) signifies that the hospital is one out of only 36 hospitals in Texas to have received the third-time designation. According to the ANCC, 452 US healthcare organizations out of over 6,300 US hospitals have achieved Magnet recognition. In addition, approximately 34% of Magnet-recognized organizations that have attempted three or more designations have been successful. This recognition is a testament to the hospital leadership’s continued dedication to high-quality nursing practice as the Magnet Recognition Program ® distinguishes healthcare organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice. To achieve initial Magnet recognition, organizations must pass a rigorous and lengthy process that demands widespread participation from leadership and staff. This process includes an electronic application, written patient care documentation, an on-site visit, and a review by the Commission on Magnet Recognition. Healthcare organizations may reapply for Magnet recognition every four years based on adherence to Magnet concepts and demonstrated improvements in patient care and quality. Shared governance Hospital leadership believes in the Shared Governance model which empowers employees to have a voice and become engaged in decision- making opportunities within the hospital. This model is grounded in a framework of partnership, equity, accountability and ownership. Shared Governance has been proven to create an environment conducive for patient-centered care and improved patient safety with the use of evidence- based clinical practice.
