Valve Disorders Center – Fort Worth
The Valve Disorders Center formed and launched a transcatheter aortic valve replacement ( TAVR ) program in late 2017 with a dedicated team of clinicians , including cardiologists , interventional cardiologists , cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiac care nurses . The multidisciplinary team of experts met weekly for several consecutive months to review each potential patient case and determine , one patient at a time , the most appropriate approach to valve repair or replacement . The clinic receives referrals from throughout North and Western Texas . With the increase of aortic stenosis in the population , there will continue to be a greater need for the services of the Valve Disorders Center .
Therapies available via the Valve Disorders Center :
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement ( TAVR )
• Transcatheter mitral valve repair ( TMVR ), especially for high surgical risk patients with severe mitral regurgitation
• Minimally invasive aortic , mitral , pulmonic and tricuspid valve repair and replacement using sternal sparing , port-access approaches
• Transcatheter valve-in-valve implantation for failed bioprosthetic valves in the aortic and mitral valves
Additional specialty procedures :
• Percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion
• Percutaneous patent foramen ovale closure
• Percutaneous atrial septal defect closure
• Alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy

MITRAL VALVE PROGRAM
The Mitral Valve Program was also a key launch in fiscal year 2018 with the help of cardiothoracic surgeons on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth . Within the mitral valve program and with the help of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital ’ s clinical team , more than 100 patients were assessed for mitral valve disease including mitral stenosis , mitral regurgitation and mitral valve prolapse . Working together , interventional cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons on the medical staff treated both degenerative mitral valve disease as well as functional mitral valve conditions . Patients with degenerative disease , congenital anomalies , ischemic cardiomyopathy , acute endocarditis , mitral annual calcification , carcinoid heart disease and mitral annular calcification are treated through this program . A minimally invasive approach to mitral regurgitation became available as a “ first ” in Tarrant County with the use of the only device available commercially , the MitraClip ® .
