First and Only Comprehensive Structural Heart Disease Program in Tarrant County
In fiscal year 2018 , through the advancement of interventional cardiology , expanding electrophysiology procedure options , and , in collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons , the first and only comprehensive structural heart disease program in Tarrant County was developed on the Baylor Scott & White – Fort Worth campus .
A multidisciplinary team of experienced cardiologists , cardiothoracic surgeons , interventional cardiologists , electrophysiologists , imaging specialists and specialized nurses combine their expertise with advanced technologies to treat a variety of patient conditions . Each patient is individually assessed for a variety of approaches – minimally invasive , catheter-based procedures to open surgical operations . In addition , through the multidisciplinary team , more left atrial appendage occlusion procedures are performed at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Fort Worth than at any other hospital in Tarrant County . The broad scope of abilities to treat complex structural heart disease cases brings referrals from cardiologists and primary care providers located throughout North and West Texas .
Conditions treated :
• Atrial septal defects ( ASD )
• Heart valve disease – abnormalities , valve insufficiency , regurgitation , stenosis , and damaged artificial valves
• Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
• Atrial fibrillation with intolerance of anticoagulation therapy
• Patent foramen ovale ( PFO )
• Prosthetic valve paravalvular leaks
• Ventricular septal defects ( VSD )
Complex treatments include both minimally invasive as well as surgical :
• Atrial septal defect ( ASD ) closure
• Left atrial appendage occlusion ( LAAO )
• Patent foramen ovale ( PFO ) catheter repair
• Surgical heart valve repair or replacement
• Transcatheter aortic valve replacement ( TAVR )
• Transcatheter mitral valve repair – minimally invasive mitral regurgitation therapy
