Educational Opportunities for Professionals

HEART AND VASCULAR SYMPOSIUM
Clinical teams including physicians on the medical staff or in the community are offered various continuing medical education ( CME ) opportunities . From the multidisciplinary event held in Santa Fe , New Mexico , through Baylor Scott & White Health , to the regionally scheduled CME events for primary care providers , CME opportunities related to heart and vascular topics are abundant with often more than 250 attendees .
MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL EVENTS
In addition to regional continuing education programs , there are monthly events on the Baylor Dallas campus . These include : Cardiology Grand Rounds , Cath Conference , Echo Conference , Vascular Surgery Conference , and High Risk Cardiac Surgery Meetings . Clinical research , interesting case studies , or timely topics within the specialties are presented by medical staff , visiting experts or fellows training in the respective fellowship programs .
Specific to clinical teams , the annual Heart and Vascular Symposium coordinated by the clinical leadership of Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital is attended by interested clinicians from around the state . This past year ’ s event featured physicians on the medical staff as well as specialized nurses and technicians who shared their expertise and insight on current trends in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular-related illnesses .
ANNUAL SYSTEM CV SERVICE LINE CONFERENCE
The Baylor Scott & White Health Governance Council hosts the annual Cardiovascular Best Care Conference each year to align physician leaders with cardiovascular operational leaders to identify and develop strategic quality goals for the upcoming year . This conference provides important senior leadership updates to our service line so that we can keep clinical leaders up-to-date on how the rapidly changing healthcare environment affects them , and serves as a system networking opportunity that helps align and share best practices across multiple sites .
The most recent conference was held in May 2018 and attracted the largest audience to date with more than 167 participants representing all areas of cardiovascular services , leadership and medical staff . The most popular part of this annual meeting was the specialty breakout sessions where physicians and clinical leaders discussed the challenges and opportunities facing their unique areas of CV expertise . Specific action plans were developed .
44TH ANNUAL WILLIAMSBURG CONFERENCE ON HEART DISEASE
William C . Roberts , MD , MACC , founded the Williamsburg Conference on Heart Disease while he was at the National Institutes of Health ( NIH ). Cardiology specialists from across the country attend the conference each year .
Dr . Roberts ’ interest in educating his colleagues and students about heart disease continued in fiscal year 2018 . The program , held in December 2017 , explored the physiologic and structural bases for cardiac dysfunction and ischemia , and therapeutic means to reverse them or to slow their progress . The primary focus was on coronary artery disease , its treatment and its prevention . A distinguished faculty of nationally and internationally recognized experts in cardiac disease presented a wide range of topics , including The New Paradigm in the Treatment of Heart Failure , Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement , The Effect of Kidney Disease on the Heart , and Vice Versa : Role of Metabolic Factors .
The Williamsburg Conference on Heart Disease will be held in December 2018 for the 45th year .
