SERVICE

MEASURING INNOVATION IN HEART AND VASCULAR CARE

Community Activism / Sponsorships

Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital is a strong supporter of the American Heart Association’ s efforts in the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke. Supporting the mission to“ Build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke,” not only is the hospital a major sponsor for the Dallas Heart Walk and Tarrant County Heart Walk in Fort Worth, the hospital leadership and employees raise money to support the American Heart Association’ s efforts through a series of activities and events leading up to the September Heart Walk date. Employees, physicians on the medical staff, family members, and pets come together for the three-mile walk through downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. More than 600 Baylor Scott & White Health employees attend the annual Dallas or Fort Worth walk.
In addition to the Heart Walk, Baylor Heart and Vascular Services at Dallas is a key sponsor for the Spring Galas: Cotes du Coeur in Dallas and the Annual Heart Ball in Tarrant County. During February Heart Month, the leadership team is also involved in the“ Go Red for Women” luncheons. In FY17, a team of employees led by cardiologist on the medical staff, Manish Assar, MD, participated in the first CycleNation™ event held in Dallas’ Klyde Warren Park.
Supporting Nancy Lieberman Charities has been a long-standing tradition for Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital. Proud to support the annual basketball camp for economically-challenged and at-risk children across the Metroplex, the hospital’ s sponsorships pay for 15 to 18 campers annually. Sponsorship of the annual Golf Classic supports the scholarship and back-toschool supplies efforts of the organization. In addition, as a title sponsor this past fiscal year for the Dream Ball Gala, the hospital supported the Dream Courts project; helping ensure that the project to install basketball courts in underserved and at-risk neighborhoods launched in Dallas. All of the youth activities associated with the Nancy Lieberman Charities support heart-healthy lifestyle choices and exercise.
Living for Zachary is a recipient of sponsorship monies to support efforts to raise awareness for sudden cardiac arrest( SCA) in youth; saving lives through community education and awareness events, promoting youth heart screenings, awarding student scholarships, and donating automated external defibrillators( AEDs) to youth-based organizations.
PROMOTING HEALTH CARE CAREERS
Additional sponsorships included supporting requests from various groups for hosting student tours, shadowing clinicians and physicians, the annual Dallas LINKS luncheon and education day, as well as the hosting of summer interns through the Mayor of Dallas Summer Intern Fellowship program. New in fiscal year 2017, Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital leaders supported the new walkSTEM Dallas organization; participating in national PI Day at the AT & T Performing Arts Plaza. This organization is focused on encouraging science, technology, engineering, and math careers aimed at middle school-age children.
RECOGNIZING NATIONAL EMS WEEK
During National EMS Week, Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital cardiology staff teamed up with Baylor University Medical Center Emergency Department staff to host an educational lunch with demonstrations sharing information about cath lab processes when a patient experiences a heart attack. During the demonstrations EMS personnel from across North Texas met members of the cath lab team, discussed what happens when they transmit a patient’ s EKG, and how the pre-hospital activation helps to create the best possible health outcome for the patient. Over the course of three events during EMS Week, the hospital clinical teams were able to connect with more than 100 emergency medical service providers and thank them for their service to the community.
CARING HEARTS ®: VOLUNTEER GROUP AND SUPPORT
Emotional support and timely communication from those who have experienced heart issues are valuable to those who may be experiencing heart events for the first time. As a result, Caring Hearts volunteers, a special group of cardiovascular patients or family members of patients, serve as the hospital’ s communication connection in the waiting rooms of the Baylor Hamilton Heart and Vascular Hospital in Dallas. These volunteers provide family members with updates during their loved one’ s procedure and recovery. Additionally, Caring Hearts volunteers often visit patients and their family members pre-procedure to answer questions and help reduce anxiety that may be present.
