Love Changes Life
Charles-Class 167
I had just waked into the door after dropping off the dress I had made for a friend’s
daughter when I noticed the light shining on my answering machine. It was my friend
saying, “I know you worked hard on the dress, but Janet doesn’t like all those sequins.
Could you change it?”
I was angry—but I suddenly recalled what Grandma had once done for me when I
was eight.
One day, Grandma spent a long time curling my hair. When she finished, she seemed
very satisfied. She asked me to look in the mirror. My heart sank. I looked funny.
“You can go out and play now,” Grandma said with a smile.
I nodded and slowly walked down the stairs. I saw other kids playing games through
the window. I knew they would laugh at my curls. At the same time, I couldn’t go back and
tell Grandma how I felt.
Finally, I went upstairs. I said in a low voice, “Grandma, my hair is too curly.”
She didn’t say a word and combed out all my curls. It was when Grandma took out
the curls that I knew she loved me. Grandma always put my feelings before hers. That is the
kind of love I try to pass on today. Keeping that memory in my mind, I called my friend
back. “I’d be glad to change the dress,” I said.
I Have a Story to Tell You!
David-Class 99
It was very cold that day. It was snowing heavily and the ground was covered with
thick snow. The shepherd thought it was dangerous for the sheep to find some grass there.
So he decided to stay in the warm room. He put some hay in the pen that the sheep could
eat when they were hungry. But his dog felt cold outside and laid on the soft hay, soon
falling asleep. At noon, the sheep wanted to eat the hay. However, they were all afraid of the
dog. In the end, the strongest sheep came to the hay. Before he started to eat, the dog heard
the sheep and opened his eyes. He showed his teeth. The sheep was frightened and quickly
ran away. Looking at the dog, the other sheep began to talk angrily.
“What a selfish dog!” said one of the sheep. “He doesn’t like others to lie on the hay.
What’s more, he doesn’t allow others to eat it.”
This story tells us we need to share with each other. We shouldn’t be selfish. What
do you understand to be the meaning of this story?
