After the planning session, there was work to be done, deciding
how to break down this huge project into bite-sized pieces. I didn’t
start by thinking how we would raise all the money we would
need to build the center. That’s probably the correct way to begin
a capital project. Instead, I sat on couch one Sunday afternoon
and wrote the following:
What We Want For Our Children
Safety
A place to heal
Warmth in the winter
Cool in the summer
A peaceful place to rest
People who will pay attention to them, hear their stories,
know their fears, and share their dreams
People who love them and know how to show it
Food for their hungry bellies
Consistency
A place where they belong
Below: The toddler room of the old building was dark, with no windows at all.
