After the planning session, there was work to be done, deciding how to break down this huge project into bite-sized pieces. I didn’t start by thinking how we would raise all the money we would need to build the center. That’s probably the correct way to begin a capital project. Instead, I sat on couch one Sunday afternoon and wrote the following: What We Want For Our Children Safety A place to heal Warmth in the winter Cool in the summer A peaceful place to rest People who will pay attention to them, hear their stories, know their fears, and share their dreams People who love them and know how to show it Food for their hungry bellies Consistency A place where they belong Below: The toddler room of the old building was dark, with no windows at all.
