In Scotland , people celebrate the last day of the year . This is one of the most famous festivals in the United Kingdom , where along with music concerts , games and carnivals , Hogmanay follows a local tradition called ‘ rst footing ’. This celebration starts after midnight , when the person enters his neighbour ' s or friend ’ s house to give some presents : cake , shortbread , whiskey and cookies . They wish good luck for the new year . There is reball swinging and marching up to the top of Lomond Hills , too . ( Riza Aybars )
