Another unforgettable moment was when we
convinced my friend Paco Martín to sit at the edge
of a marsh with a dry branch in his hand and wait
for a kingfisher, who seemed quite cheeky, to land
on it. When it did, which took no more than 15 minutes,
we shot dozens of photos and recorded it on
video. It was a unique and perhaps a once in a lifetime
moment.
I also remember the first time I went with my
friend José Manuel Gaona Ríos to see the incredible
and beautiful work on research into the nocturnal
butterflies of the Campo de Gibraltar, authorised
by the Junta de Andalucía, and carried out over
2 years. It was early morning and when I got to the
location where the “light traps” had been placed
to attract them, I was speechless when I saw how
many there were. I could be falling short when I say
there were 200 of them. I didn’t know which one to
photograph.
Which photographic fields most attract you?
I like photography in general, of all kinds, but
there are two fields I am most passionate about,
street photography and nature photography. From
my point of view, photography has the great power
to stop and retain the present before it disappears
into the past. It was invented precisely so that anyone
could create an image. So that anyone could
capture the things that are important to them.
Tell us about your interest in nature photography
My profession has been teaching, the most
important profession that exists. Teaching has
allowed me to achieve my other goals. If we were
unable to educate younger generations, we would
not evolve. We would still be primates. I say this
because nature photography is an especially important
and valuable tool for education and for spreading
awareness. Nowadays, our planet is in serious
danger due to the myriad of environmental aggressions
that human beings infringe upon it each day,
due to the number of species that are disappearing
or are about to disappear, it’s a great way to contribute
towards raising awareness of society and of
humanity. Nature photography brings us closer to
the environment. A natural environment that more
and more people know little about, ignore, and therefore,
are incapable of cherishing, being as it is
No sabía a cuál
fotografiar.
Si no fuéramos
