We must look back to 2002 to find the beginnings of European countries ’ awareness of the need to build without losing sight of energy efficiency and , consequently , placing more value on conserving our environment .
Undoubtedly , some publications can be found prior to this date discussing concepts relating to CO2 emissions and their impact on our environment ; however , it was in 2002 , specifically with the publication of the European Directive 2002 / 91 / EC , that defined the required tools to verify how buildings , construction , and the installation of the architectural complex of a city or country affects energy expenditure and its relationship with the environment .
This tool , which is now the basis or starting point to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions produced by buildings , is the ENERGY CERTIFICATE and the ENERGY AUDITS . This work , which is carried out by professionals and experts , results in an energy consumption profile to help determine , and quantify , possible energy-saving strategies that are also cost-effective .

Nos tenemos que remontar al año 2002 para encontrar la casilla de salida en la concienciación de los países europeos en la necesidad de construir sin perder de vista la eficiencia energética y , por tanto , dar más valor a la conservación de nuestro medio ambiente .
Seguramente , encontramos en la hemeroteca algunas publicaciones anteriores a esta fecha , que hablan ya de conceptos relacionados con las emisiones de CO2 y su repercusión en nuestro entorno ; pero es a partir de este año , y en concreto con la publicación de la Directiva Europea 2002 / 91 / CE , cuando se define lo que va a ser nuestra herramienta para comprobar cómo afecta la Edificación , Construcción e Instalación del parque arquitectónico de una ciudad o país , en el gasto energético y su vinculación con el medio ambiente .
Esa herramienta , que es la base o punto de partida , para cuantificar los gases de efecto invernadero que causan nuestros edificios , es el CERTIFICADO ENERGÉTICO y las AUDITORÍAS ENERGÉTICAS .
