This year ' s World Ocean Day School Competition is titled Thalassophile , which means a person who loves the sea . The theme surrounds marine animals that are found along the Gibraltarian Coastline .
The competition is open to young people in local schools from Reception to Year 13 with submissions divided into age group categories ( Lower Primary School , Upper Primary School , Secondary School ) and entry sub-categories ( Individual , Classroom , Year Group , Overall School ). Using the Nautilus Projects mobile app NEMO , which has a wealth of information about the species found around Gibraltar ’ s coastline , contestants must submit research on a marine animal of their choice . Submissions can come in any form , from posters to pamphlets , books , plays , songs , word documents or PowerPoint presentations and should include as much information as they can find ; their habitat , feeding habits , why they are important to our ecosystem etc .
