gy and the significant amount still needed to keep Gibraltar on track with its climate change commitments . He also recognised the need for the public sector to lead by example and for Government action to match the level of ambition set out in the Climate Change Strategy .
The NZDB will meet every two months and report its progress to Parliament every year , and the agenda will be driven by the Department for the Environment and Climate Change .
Primera reunión del Órgano de Suministro de Net Zero de Gibraltar
El Gobierno de Gibraltar anunció que la primera reunión del Órgano de Cumplimiento de la Red de Gibraltar ( NZDB ) se celebró virtualmente a principios de julio tras la publicación de la Estrategia de Cambio Climático a finales del año pasado . El objetivo de la NZDB es llevar la estrategia a su fase de implementación .
El viceministro jefe , Dr . Joseph García , presidió la primera reunión , en la que también participaron el ministro de Medio Ambiente y Cambio Climático y el ministro de Transportes , junto con cerca de veinte funcionarios .
El grupo aprobó el proyecto de reglamento por el que se establece la NZDB y los miembros individuales respondieron a las recomendaciones formuladas por el Comité de Cambio Climático para sus respectivas organizaciones .
La NZDB también acordó establecer tres grupos de trabajo prioritarios . Cada grupo tendrá objetivos definidos que deberán alcanzarse en fechas específicas para garantizar el progreso hacia la agenda global de descarbonización . Los grupos son :
- Desarrollo de infraestructuras para vehículos eléctricos .
- Datos y procesos de información intergubernamentales . - Generación de energía renovable . Otras áreas fundamentales que se abordarán son la estrategia de compromiso público , la financiación verde y la adaptación y resiliencia al clima .
El Viceministro Principal dio las gracias a todos por su asistencia , reconociendo tanto la cantidad de trabajo ya realizado en el desarrollo de la Estrategia de Cambio Climático como la cantidad significativa que aún se necesita para mantener a Gibraltar en el camino de sus compromisos con el cambio climático . También reconoció la necesidad de que el sector público predique con el ejemplo y de que la acción del Gobierno esté a la altura del nivel de ambición establecido en la Estrategia de Cambio Climático .
La NZDB se reunirá cada dos meses e informará de sus progresos al Parlamento cada año , y la agenda será impulsada por el Departamento de Medio Ambiente y Cambio Climático .
BIRD MIGRATION OBSERVATORY NETWORK ESTABLISHED
The Europe-Africa Bird Migration Observatory Network ( EABMON ) has been created in Gibraltar . Its purpose is for the scientific study and public enjoyment of bird migration between Africa and Europe .
The exciting initiative was launched on the 50 th anniversary of the landmark study on Palaearctic-African bird migration by the late Reginal Moreau of Oxford University .
The network has been established as part of a wider commemoration culminating with the Calpe conference in Gibraltar this September , where leading scientists will gather to discuss our current knowledge , climate change impacts and conservation requirements of migratory birds .
Gibraltar is an important site for observing migratory birds . Lying just a short distance from the African Continent , thousands of migratory birds such as Honey Buzzards , Black Kites and Short-toed Eagles pass Gibraltar every year .
Locations for the network have been set up across Gibraltar , with each site enjoying different levels of access and protection . The aim is to maximise research and species conservation as well as public access wherever possible .
EABMON will be coordinated by a board of observatory representatives and chaired by Professor John Cortes .
