Occupational therapist completes ‘ world ’ s toughest row ’
Following a three-year campaign , Jessica Mullins , a British occupational therapist , has completed a gruelling rowing mission across the Atlantic Ocean for charity .
Dubbed the ‘ World ’ s Toughest Row ’, the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge race is a 3,000 mile mission from La Gomera in Spain to Antigua , and is known as one of the most challenging endurance races in the world .
Jessica was the skipper and project manager of their four-man mixed team , IN DEEP SHIP . Overall , they raised around £ 70,000 to run the campaign and donate to their chosen charities on the challenge .
Jessica told OTnews : ‘ We became a world first of our team dynamic – three women and one man . To put it into perspective , only a few hundred women have ever successfully completed the crossing and significantly more people have climbed Everest .’
She added : We are four ordinary friends achieving the extraordinary . We have wanted to inspire others to push their own limits and see that anything is possible with enough grit and determination … after all isn ’ t that the same inspiration we apply to our patients every single day and the resilience we witness through their adversity ?
‘ Over the years working as an occupational therapist , I have developed skills that I found transferable to the leadership role I offered to this expedition . I truly believe that it is my journey as a therapist that has contributed to the success of my Atlantic achievement .’
