March saw the publication of its Progressive Stroke Pathway , which sets out ‘ an ambitious vision of a stroke service that fully meets the holistic needs of patients , as well as envisioning how future uses of novel technology and an evolving workforce can be incorporated into a progressive stroke service ’.
Thérèse Lebedis ( OBE ), Consultant AHP / Occupational Therapist in Stroke , is the RCOT representative on the National Advisory Committee for Stroke ( Scotland ) and was asked to join the National Stroke Improvement Team to lead the development of the stroke rehabilitation section of the Progressive Stroke Pathway document . She says : ‘ As chair of the national stroke rehabilitation group I was supported by many clinicians , researchers and academics , as well as the National Stroke Voices group of patient and public representatives who provided vital input with a range of expert and lived experience views to shape the content and produce a report on what progressive stroke rehabilitation services should look like across the stroke pathway .
‘ The progressive stroke rehabilitation pathway is underpinned by a holistic model of stroke rehabilitation , which outlines the required service infrastructure and components of assessment , intervention and evaluation which are the foundations for stroke rehabilitation .
‘ Work is ongoing to develop an implementation plan , as well as the production of examples of stroke service pathways , which are required in each board area .
‘ The stroke improvement team will continue to provide annual reviews of performance and evaluation methods will be developed to include the approaches used to deliver person centred rehabilitation as well as patient experience .’
