Today ’ s governance structure
Our governance is more complex than some because we are made up of two separate but related organisations : the British Association of Occupational Therapists ( BAOT ) and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists ( RCOT ).
BAOT is the parent company and trade union . It owns RCOT , which is a charity . As a trade union and charity , there are different regulations and rules that each organisation must follow .
We ’ re looking to create clearer separation between the two organisations and their roles and responsibilities so that the distinction is clear to all members .
Odeth adds : ‘ We ’ re hoping that by making the distinction between the two separate organisations , we will increase the confidence that members have in our ability to govern and that we will be able to position the organisation in such a way that we can deliver on our objectives .’
Proposed changes
This year , we ’ re focusing on updating our charity operating rules , so they ’ re fit for purpose and to improve how RCOT is run as an organisation and as a business .
To create a clearer distinction between the BAOT and RCOT governing bodies , we ’ re proposing to rename RCOT Council to RCOT Board of Trustees . To support our elected OT Trustee members , we want to bring in new additional roles in areas such as finance and
