Types of Retailers
Department Stores
A department store is a large shop stocking a variety of goods from different departments, they are located in central shopping districts and also have an online presence. The customer service is of good standards and is easy to find a member of staff, staff will be in uniform and help desks will be located at various points around the store. The type of customer will vary due to the stores stocking goods of interest for children to the elderly, the products offered include, clothing for men, women and children, accessories, beauty products, toys, electronics, home wear, luggage and will most often have a foodhall.
Public place retailer
Public place retailer is accessible to the public, this isn't limited to one store and could be made up of many stores and restaurants. They will often be a variety of shops to attract a larger group of customers. They can be found at airports such as duty free, at train stations and museum shops. All these locations are visited daily by thousands of people, so a range of stores is important to keep all customers satisfied.
Specialist stores
Theses retailers specialise on a particular product, an example is the Disney store, they will only stock Disney products, they won't stock any products related to the same market, like a sponge bob toy due to it not being a Disney toy. Specialist stores would compete with department stores as similar products would be stocked. They can stock any product but if a product is widely stocked in other stores then a specialist may not be successful.
Retailers can be categorised into different types, mainly by what they sell, how they sell it and the location in which they sell products.
