Dr. Abdulla’s major is divided into two stages, the first stage which is the basic physician training. This
stage lasts three years in which the physician trainee works at an accredited hospital by the college.
This stage requires the physician trainee to pass all written and clinical examinations before being
able to progress to the second stage. Doctor Abdullah successfully passed this stage in 2013.
The second stage is the advanced physician training. It takes three years to complete this stage after
that the doctor becomes qualified to work as a consultant. Doctor Abdullah is now in his final year in
this stage.
During his time in Australia, doctor Abdullah has worked as a hospital medical officer then as a
registrar at Alfred hospital. He also worked in the following departments: internal medicine, intensive
care unit, accident and emergency and trauma before moving to Caulfield hospital where he worked
in spinal rehabilitation unit. He also worked as a Cardiology registrar in Mildura Base Hospital. Doctor
Abdullah currently works at Goulburn valley health as a Senior Medical Registrar.
All of the previous medical rotations are accredited by the Royal Australasian College of physicians.
Some of the most important research projects that doctor Abdullah has been working on include:
• Acute anteroseptal myocardial infarction after normal exercise stress test. This research was a case
report and was presented at annual Royal Australasian college of physicians (RACP) Congress in 2015
in the city of Cairns in Queensland. The research was recently published in Sultan Qaboos University’s
medical Journal in May 2016.
• Appropriate use of echocardiogram for general medical inpatient. This research was presented at
RACP Congress 2016 in Adelaide and is being currently processed to be fully published in a prominent
medical Journal.
• Trends of use of computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) for pulmonary embolism
(PE) in rural health setting .This project was presented in internal medicine society of Australia and
New Zealand (IMSANZ) in Alice spring in Sep 2016.
• Management of ST elevation myocardial infarction in regional health settings. and Also was present-
ed in Alice spring in Sep 2016
• Dr. Abdullah also worked as local data manager at Golburn valley health for the Victorian cardiac
outcome registry
Doctor Abdullah plans to return to Oman once he completes the remainder of his studies. There, he
plans to return to work Sultan Qaboos University’s hospital and assist in providing excellent care for
the patients there. Furthermore, the doctor wishes to teach and train students of the college of medi-
cine at the university as well as train doctors that are part of the Oman medical specialty board and
continue working in quality improvement research projects .
