topic NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF ENGINEERING SCIENCE PROLEMS using the finite element method. He explained the importance and applications of numerical simulations in today’ s world, and opined that everything under the sun can be numerically simulated. He also felt that numerical simulations should not be neglected in the development of today ' s world for human comfort and convenience.

Alumni Talk # 4 Kannan Tinnium

He spoke about his book: Introduction to finite element which talks about why we have to do and what we have to do in the future. He expressed that engineers are the most important part of the society, independent of boundaries of a country and engineers can do everything for the development of society. The main contents of his lecture involved ENGINEERING AS A DISCIPLINE( nature of engineering). He informed that an engineers’ duty is not only to build system for human convenience, safety and comfort and also to add comfort to life. He mentioned that as an individual one should never take set-backs as permanent failures and should keep trying to achieve their dreams.
Dr. Kannan Tinnium graduated with a B. E from Osmania University, India in 1991, M. S. and Ph. D in Electrical Engineering from Tulane University, New Orleans in 1993 and 1996 respectively. He then joined Entergy Services, Inc., one of the largest electric power utilities in the US, where he was responsible for bringing new technologies to the transmission system, perform technical studies and recommend solutions. He is the Technology Leader – Electrical Technologies & Systems at GE Global Research, Bangalore. Based out of GE’ s largest multidisciplinary R & D facility, the John F. Welch Technology Centre, he is responsible for driving technology development in the areas of controls, optics and instrumentation, electrical power systems, power electronics, safety and electromagnetics.
