CLINICAL EXCELLENCE : JOINT SERVICE
The UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides full-service , total joint replacement care – from procedures for osteoarthritis to complex revision surgeries to address problems from previous operations . Our expert joint service performs over 1,200 hip and knee replacements annually , and that number continues to grow . We managed 7,560 visits in FY2022 , encompassing more than 1,870 cases .
A large percentage of our patients qualify for same-day total joint replacement surgery , thanks to robust pain management protocols , anesthesia techniques , and selection criteria . We enhance the patient experience and improve outcomes through extensive preoperative screening , patient education classes , and preparations for at-home recovery , all in collaboration with the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine .
