Orthopedic Oncology
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Our Orthopedic Oncology team improves quality of life and treatment outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal cancers through innovative surgical interventions and research. Leveraging a collaborative environment, we advance care for pediatric sarcoma patients via clinical and translational studies. Highlights on current and emerging studies include a pediatric sarcoma registry tracking long-term outcomes, gait lab analysis of rotationplasty patients, research on benign tumors such as multiple hereditary exostoses and tenosynovial giant cell tumor, and the development of a Tissue Microarray to identify novel targets for fluorescent-guided surgery.
RESEARCH HIGHLIGHT
Rocky Mountain Sarcoma Symposium
The Rocky Mountain Sarcoma Symposium( RMSS) united leading experts in pediatric and adult sarcoma care from across the CU Anschutz campus and the Colorado State University Flint Animal Cancer Center. Featuring five nationally recognized specialists across oncology disciplines, RMSS delivered updates on multidisciplinary care and clinical trials, while fostering research collaboration. CU’ s Chief of Musculoskeletal Oncology and co-director of RMSS, Steven Thorpe, MD, and Nate Donaldson, DO, served on the planning committee. Dr. Donaldson was a part of the presentations, specifically“ Heavy Metal vs Biologic Reconstructions for Pediatric Sarcoma,” that emphasized reconstruction outcomes and insights from the Children’ s Colorado MRC pediatric sarcoma registry.
