FEBRUARY 2015

3.How do you think the lab experience benefitted you?

Everyone should get some lab experience in high school. You learn a lot about how real science works and how to work with professionals in your field of interest. I met lots of great people and got some amazing results.

4.Please describe your experiences at MIT!

I won a all-expenses paid trip to MIT in February through the MIT THINK program. I attended a SUPER COOL MechE robotics class, toured amazing labs, and got to make connections with influential professors in my field of interest. Also, I got to learn about college life and interact with some of the smartest kids I’ve ever met. I developed my proposal on my own, and used it and the THINK program to convince my current lab at UCI to help me out.

5. Can you give a brief advice to those who are interested in science?

Don’t give up! No one in my family is involved in STEM so I really had no idea where to get help. I had to send maybe 50+ emails to even get 5-6 positive replies from professors. It may seem hard to get involved in research, but once you find someone to support you in your research, their help is INVALUABLE.
