THE “HOUSE OF TORGOM” IN WRITTEN SOURCES Tsakanyan Ruslan (Institute of Oriental Studies, NAS RA) In the article the author presents all available written data concerning the city of Tegarama, attested to in ancient Near Eastern, classical, Biblical and medieval written sources (Old/Neo-Assyrian - Tégarama, Tīl-Garimmu Hittite - Ta/e/ig/k/qaram(m)a, Luwian - Lá/í/u-ka+ra/i-ma, Biblical - Byt-Tgrmh, Byt- Trgmh (‫ָה‬ ‫ְמ‬ ‫ַר‬ ‫תּוֹג‬ ‫ית‬ ‫בּ‬ ֵ ), Armenian – Թեգարամա, «Տուն Թորգոմա»). According to Armenian sources, Patriarch Torgom was the father of Hayk - the eponym of Armenian nation. It is obvious that Torgom was the Patriarch of a guardian "House-Hearth" of Armenian people, from whom were named Bet-Torgāmā - "Togarma's House" or "generations of the house of Togarma", i.e. "Torgom's Dynastiy". In later Armenian environment traces of the sacred-patriarchal "House-Hearth" are still visible. 180
