Please Welcome Our New MGM, Michael McClelland
I have been working at Goldcorp for seven years, starting in the Vancouver Corporate office and most recently as the Finance Director for the Canada / USA region based in Toronto. During this time, I had the opportunity to visit Wharf on numerous occasions. The beauty of the Black Hills and the friendliness and sense of community of the people that live and work here have always made an impression on me. I had always thought to myself that if I ever had the opportunity to work at a mine site, Wharf would be a great fit for my own values.

I am pleased to report that we had a strong Quarter One from a Safety standpoint. Above all else, it is important to me that everyone that
Mine General Manager works at Wharf goes home, unharmed, at the end of their shift. There are people at home who depend on you to come home in one piece. In my case, my wife Sandi and my sons, Nate and William, count on me to come home because wrestling with their Dad is the most important part of their day. I ask you all to look out for each other and speak up if you see something that isn’ t right. It is TIME TO ACT.
From a production view, we are off to a slow start in Quarter One due to solution distribution issues on the startup of leaching on heap leach pad four. I am confident that these problems were temporary and that we will be able to deliver on our full year budgeted production.

With a strong mine life ahead of us, we are poised to remain one of Goldcorp’ s most efficient operations. Our low capital requirements put us in a strong operating position in the face of turbulent precious metal markets. That said, we can always improve and get better. An Operating for Excellence(“ O4E”) culture can lower our overall operating costs and increase our overall production, leaving us with the potential to extend our mine life. We will be focusing closely on O4E. Projects such as optimizing the crusher to increase throughput, and expanding the de-nitrification plant to reduce the time required to rinse the pads are in the plans for this year.
These O4E projects will complement our current expansion work on the Highway 473 re-route, which is currently on schedule to be completed in the third quarter of this year. This is an important project in the next phase of Wharf’ s history and I’ m very proud to be a part of it.
Thank you for all your safe production in Quarter One!
