LAYING ON OF HANDS AND PRAYER OF ORDINATION All rise with the elect after the Litany. The Archbishop lays his hands on the kneeling elect in silence. The Laying on of Hands is an ancient ritual dating to the Apostles to confer the sacred orders. HANDING ON OF THE BOOK OF GOSPELS After the Prayer of Ordination, all sit. The newly Ordained stand and are vested with the deacon’s stole and d almatic. Vested as deacons, the newly Ordained go to the Archbishop, kneel before him, and receive the Book of the Gospels. The Archbishop gives each of the newly Ordained the fraternal kiss. All the deacons present do likewise. Ubi Caritas Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986) Where charity and love are, God is there.
