ALLELUIA The Deacon who is to proclaim the Gospel, bowing profoundly before the Archbishop, asks for the blessing. The Archbishop says in a low voice: May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips, that you may proclaim his Gospel worthily and well, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, † and of the Holy Spirit. GOSPEL John 12:24-26 Please remain standing until the Archbishop has kissed the Book of Gospels and blessed the people of God with it. Then all sit. RITE OF ORDINATION ELECTION OF THE CANDIDATES The candidates are called by Deacon Brian Diehm, director of the Office of the Diaconate, to approach the Archbishop. Fr. Todd Molinari, Vicar for Clergy and priest-designate, presents the candidates for ordination, having determined their worthiness. The congregation gives its assent with an applause. HOMILY The Most Reverend Alexander K. Sample Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Portland PROMISE OF THE ELECT The elect alone rise and stand before the Archbishop, who questions them. Then each of the elect goes to the Archbishop, kneels before him, and places his joined hands between those of the Archbishop to profess his respect and obedience to his ordinary. LITANY OF SUPPLICATION The elect prostrate themselves at the singing of the Litany. The congregation will kneel praying for God’s mercy upon the elect. Page 5
