Vast majority feature cachets, with clear strikes of ship cancels. Heaviest concentration from the 1930s-40s, although there are a few that date back earlier, including both 1910 and 1911 covers from ‘USS Independence’. Despite date range, very few after mid-1960s. Noted ships from Hawaii, Alaska and from various cruises and missions, many with special cancellations. Very useful and tough group, with very little duplication. Cover bears Nov 4, 1986, Washington, DC, machine cancel, the earliest known use of this major variety. Cover prepared by and mailed to Charles Yeager, then Linn’s Washington correspondent, who was able to prepare true EKU covers for many modern U.S. varieties. Since he prepared only a handful for each, all bearing his name are quite scarce and sell for premium over similar covers. Very fine. Ex-Cook. (1991 AFDCS Cert #967, verifying EKU status).
