Course Description:
GCSE English Language develops students’ reading, writing and communication skills through the study of a variety of texts. It enhances analytical thinking, creativity and the ability to express ideas clearly. Students will explore fiction and non-fiction texts, analysing language, structure and meaning. They will develop skills in critical evaluation, inference and comparison, while improving grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
The writing component focuses on creative and transactional writing, encouraging students to craft engaging narratives, descriptions, and persuasive texts.
Assessment consists of two exams:
Paper 1: Creative reading and writing 50 % 1h 45m
Paper 2: Writers’ viewpoints and perspectives 50 % 1h 45m
Students also complete a Spoken Language Endorsement through a presentation.
