Dr. Bassel Hindawi

Dr. Hindawi is a former Jordanian Diplomat and previously served for over a decade as the Director General of the Insurance Commission of Jordan( IC) since its establishment in 1999 until 2010. He led a carefully planned strategy to enhance the efficiency of the insurance sector and modernize the regulatory framework to be prudent, yet business friendly. Dr. Hindawi previously led the initiative to establish the Arab Forum of Insurance Regulatory Commissions( AFIRC) in late 2006. He chaired AFIRC’ s first term( 2007-2009), and launched an initiative between AFIRC and Hawkamah Institute for Corporate Governance
to develop guidelines on the practical implementation of good corporate governance in the regional insurance markets. In 2010, he co-founded the MENA Insurance CEO Club( MICC) to serve as a“ think-tank” to shape and spearhead the future development of the insurance industry in the region. He served as a member of the Board of the International Insurance Society( IIS) during 2004 – 2010, represented the MENA region on the Executive Committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors( IAIS) during 2002-2010, and was a catalyst for closer cooperation between the IAIS & the Islamic Financial Services Board( IFSB).

Paul Hodges is Chairman of IeC. IeC has built a reputation as trusted commercial advisers with a global focus, and its clients include many of the world’ s major companies and investors. Paul writes the ICIS‘ Chemicals & the Economy’ blog, and is co-author of the influential ebook‘ Boom, Gloom and the New Normal’. This describes how demographic changes are taking global demand patterns in completely new directions. Paul is a regular speaker at international conferences, and writes regularly for the Financial Times and other leading media. He was widely recognised for his foresight in warning of the 2008 financial crisis. Paul is an invited member of the World Economic Forum’ s Global Agenda Council on the Future of Chemicals, Advanced Materials & Biotechnology 2014 – 2016. He is also a Member of the Energy Institute, and a Freeman of the City of London Previously, Paul was an Executive Director of a major global chemical business for ICI, where he worked from 1978 – 1995. He was VP, Europe / Middle East, for DeWitt from 1995 – 1999; and VP Europe / Middle East, for ChemConnect from 1999 – 2001. He lives in London, is married with 2 sons, and is a tennis, cricket and skiing enthusiast.
